Great new listening tool August 27, 2010 Michael B. Mcfadden (Austin, Texas) I just received the product yesterday. It was easy to set up with a nice instruction booklet. You should have your wireless router already set up first. The device is smaller than I thought it would be from the descriptions. I was going to use it for a clock radio, but the single alarm setting and somewhat difficult interface to set/control the alarm don't suggest that it will serve that purpose. Instead of the alarm clock radio, I now use it for my tuner on my stereo system.
I live in the country in Texas with no decent local FM reception. Now this radio not only provides great access to my local FM classical station, but I can get music of all types from all over the world and play it through my 300 watt tuner. Last night I listened to my old favorite classical station back in LA - KUSC. It was like being back in my old den 5 years ago.
It works great.
Do your homework and check the other WIFI radios first for features that you want, but I highly recommend this one for price/performance/quality as a small table radio or a tuner for a stereo system. The battery option make it a portable as well.
I give it 4 stars because I think the interface is a bit hokey and cumbersone to navigate - but it works. It also needs an earphone jack, USB port, and the aux input should be on the front of the device not at the rear.
Many flaws- read before buying August 15, 2010 M. Erickson This device has the sound quality of a cheap, small, clock radio. The base port gives a muffled base which makes it sounds worse, not better. Here are more details.
Pros: easy to set up with rapid connection to Wi-Fi network. Stations can easily be added on the web.
Cons: the small base port points down, it gives a fuzzy indistinct sound. I wasn't expecting audiophile quality, but the sounds is worse than my old clock radio. There is an RCA "audio out" to connect to a better speaker system, but you can't turn off the device's own speakers when connecting.
The menu for choosing stations is laborious to use. You can add stations via the web, but getting to "my stations" and selecting one requires multiple steps. I'd love to add dozens of stations from around the world, but don't know if I have the patience to navigate it all each time I want to listen to the radio.
This device has good points, but try to find one in a store before you order online. Unfortunately the shipper I chose had a no return policy once opened.
Best Decision I've Made In A Long Time! August 4, 2010 chad1732 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I stumbled across this device and decided to take a chance. I am so glad that I did! I absolutely LOVE this device! I love the time I have spent in Hawaii and now I am listening to "Hawaii Joe" on a daily basis and it makes me feel like I am still in the islands! I lived in Australia for two years and I am able to pick up the local Auzzie news and their wonderful lingo whenever I want! I have traveled the world extensively and this radio gives me such an amazing experience as I am eaily able to dial in any country of my choice! This is a treasure trove of magic for me. I highly recommend it! It automatically found my wireless Internet signal and so the set up could not have been easier. Do yourself a favor and get one, you will never regret it! It's very well made and has the look and feel of high quality. It's easy to use and I just can't think of a single negative.
Great little gadget! July 30, 2010 TechyDad I bought this about a weeke ago. The setup out of the box was a breeze - had it up and running in 10 minutes. I primarily plan on using this as an alram clock for tunes in the bedroom, but also want to be able to take it out on the deck when working outside.
The sound quality is ok - better than your standard clock radio, but not as good as some other systems. Bass is a little "boomy" in the bedroom on my nightstand, but, hey, it's not a Tivoli (and a quarter of the price of one, I might add).
A couple of quirks I've noticed:
1 - The setup for listening to files from your computer took me a couple of days to get working. You need to create an account on each computer that carries files you want to listen to - kinda screwy, but not too bad if you're only playing files from one computer.
2 - I wasn't able to get the files to play for a couple of days - At first, I thought there was a firewall/AV issue, so stopped my Norton stufff, but still wouldn't work. I ended up using a simple password (I tend to use complex passwords, as I work in technology) and then was able to get to the files and play them - lesson is, if you want to access your files, be sure NOT to use any symbols in your passwords.
3 - One other thing that happend just today - for whatever reason, the unit lost connection to my wireless router - even though it showed connected, I wasn't able to get my stations to play - ended up resetting the wireless info, and it began to work again - I hope this isn't a recurring issue, so will see how the unit holds up
I haven't hooked it up to my sound system yet, but would imagine it would sound no worse than my current laptop hooked to it.
For the price, not a bad little radio to have around! I'd definately suggest it for the price.
Sounds great, looks great, easy to use July 27, 2010 riz sauvage I like nearly everything about this radio. It's sharp looking, nice display, easy setup, GREAT SOUND, works on battery, and every feature I could want..... except ability to connect with Pandora. I really wish it had that.
