As described August 29, 2010 BWP1 (CT) These are as described. I can't give 5 starts, but only because the quality if what you would expect for the price. If you need to use thinning shears occasionally, these would be more than satisfactory.
Good, Cheap, Thinning Shears August 20, 2010 E. Miranda Hernandez (All over--currently Afghanistan) I recently cut my thick hair very short, and discovered that if I don't thin it out on a regular basis, it sticks out too much on top. I could pay a stylist to do this, but at $20-$30 every two weeks, that would get pretty expensive. These shears are a great alternative.
You might be scared of thinning your own hair. I was at first, but when I saw how the shears worked, I felt better. Since I have a stylist to shape my hair and provide the general cut, I use these in-between cuts to get rid of some of the excess hair. You simply lift a patch of hair, "cut" down, and a few stray strands have been cut. The shorted pieces blend in with the rest of your hair, and are not noticable.
The only thing I don't like about these scissors is that they tend to stick a tiny bit, and you have to hold them at a certain angle to get them to close all the way. Once you get used to them, you can use them pretty easily, but this took me a few tries before I could hold them at the right angle. Otherwise, great shears for the price.
Too dull to cut hair August 17, 2010 Dragon Avoid these at all costs. They are too dull to cut hair.
Here is what happens if you try. You start out with your strands of hair perpendicular to the plane of the shears (imagine a plane that contains the blades and the loops of the scissors). As you try to cut, your hair will turn 90 degrees and move into that plane, and the blades bend out of that plane to make a gap for your hair. So very little of the hair gets cut.
Not the best for trimming June 9, 2010 Samantha (Newport Beach, CA) The scissor was just like what the other reviews said, it is not sharp enough.
I was going to buy it to trim my dog's fur, but I don't think it is even good for my hair.
It's worth the price for trimming your hair bangs.
Fast Shipping! November 9, 2009 V. Shore (Baltimore) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
One thing I was amazed by for this item was how fast it was delivered to me! I ordered it on a Saturday and got it a day later, on Monday. I really wasn't expecting it to arrive so quickly, but I'm definitely not complaining that it did. These work wonderfully at keeping my hair thinned and can snag a bit on occasion, but for what I paid for them, I have no qualms or complaints. I ordered from hobbytoolsupply - if you want fast shipping, they're for you!
