4 out of 5 stars Tribes 2   January 31, 2007

This game is a lot of fun and brings back good memories of the original Tribes series. Sierra actually made this game "free" so if you look out on the internet for a little you can find it, but it's around 500mb for the installer ([...]) so it might just be worth buying the original CD. If you like this game, I suggest trying out the newer Tribes Vengeance.

5 out of 5 stars don't walk, RUN !! to get this game ...   November 15, 2005

I'm a late comer to this game, but have been playing it for over 2 years now. It has only gotten better in all that time. If it has any weakness at all, it's that it has a fairly steep learning curve. You can't just pick it up and be competitive in an afternoon. But, I don't consider that a weakness, because for these same reasons, the amazing depth and balance of the gameplay, you could play this game forever and never be bored. I tell my wife that this game is my version of golf.

The team play, giant maps, jump jets (for flying, truly 3D action), and awesome online performance are all great. But, even the little things are all just right. For example, it seems small, but all of the weapons are intuitive and very well balanced. Pick the right weapon for the right situation. There are no crazy-purple-electro-laser-mega-weapons like in other games. All of the armors have pro's and con's. This is why people can spend hours even just playing one-on-one duels in Tribes 2.

The talk about this game going abandonware is not entirely true. For whatever reason, they cut off the downloads (out of CD keys they said). The best seller series is the way to go if you can find it: no patches needed. (But, free, anti-cheat "defense turret" add-on highly recommended and required by some servers.) If you have to buy used, make sure you get and verify the username and password for on-line play! (And good news, you're able to change the username, too.)

See you out there.

5 out of 5 stars you aint played multi play games until you've played tribes2   July 18, 2004

Simply put, this game is a kick azz killer.Even though it's about 4 years old, the graphics are great and the gameplay fun as ever. However, tribes has a steep learning curve (took me about 4 months to be able to hold my own) The training missions do help quite a bit (that AI could have some nasty aim) But the skillz will come with time. Team work is great (provided you join a decend team) Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your clanmates fight to retake their base that was overrun after an enemy invasion, load up a couple of bombers and bomb the enemy back to the iron age, then getting some guys in the enemy base too take it over - Then parking a tank or two and a Mobile point base with a morter turrent right next to the enemy base to maximize damage. If you get tribes, you will be in for some epic battles on land, in the air, and underwater. Don't miss out on this one ;) see ya on the battle field

4 out of 5 stars So much promise, pity it was rushed   May 14, 2004

Tribes 2 had so much potential when it was under developement. Teamplay, integrated clan support, ability to use vehicles, infinate distance engine etc...

Even though the game was made some time ago the graphics still look great, it runs smoothly and can be great fun.

Unfortunately, Sierra seem to have forced Dynamix to rush it out the door (Dynamix soon closed after the release) meaning many promising features where left half finished. The command screen interface for instance looked fantastic, but is ultimately fairly useless for genuinely controlling a team. The community features all shut down soon after release and the flurry of patches that came out afterwards failed to address all issues before Dynamix went under.

A real shame...but still great fun to play

Good Game. Not as good as the origional IMO but its still extremely fun. I wouldnt buy it though, on May 5, 2004 its being released for free on FilePlanet and the issue of Computer Gaming World.
